Private investments will be attracted for the construction of 58 micro-hydro power plants

According to calculations, the current hydropower capacity of Uzbekistan can be increased by 1 GW.

On March 17, Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a discussion on the fulfillment of tasks to expand the use of renewable energy sources, the presidential press service reports.

The main topic was hydroelectric power plants, which are able to generate electricity around the clock. Now hydroelectric power plants generate 6.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.

In recent years, the total volume of hydropower capacities of Uzbekistan, due to the construction of 15 new and modernization of 12 HPPs, has grown by 260 MW, to 2.1 GW. According to calculations, it can be increased by another 1 GW.

The President instructed to design 36 medium and large hydroelectric power plants on the sections of the Pskem, Naryn and Tupalang rivers. The private sector will be involved in the construction of 26 micro hydropower plants with a capacity of 9 MW.

Also, 3 HPPs with a capacity of 23 MW will be built on the Big Andijan Canal, and one HPP with a capacity of 16 MW will be built on the Tulang River.

In addition, it is planned to install solar panels with a capacity of 1.7 GW in business areas, social facilities and residential buildings.

Earlier, Spot wrote that four photovoltaic power plants with a capacity of 2.4 GW would be built around Tashkent.

The Solar Home program and the Solar Mahalla competition are launched

On March 14, the Cabinet of Ministers issued an order to launch the Solar Home program in Uzbekistan. UzA reported this.

The president instructed to develop and implement the corresponding program in February. Its goal is to stimulate the installation by residents of the regions of small photovoltaic panels in their homes.

In the first year, under the program, it is planned to provide 36.6 thousand households with electricity from solar panels. According to calculations, the total capacity of the installations will be 182.1 MW, which is the equivalent of one commercial photovoltaic power plant.

In addition, the Solar Mahalla competition will be organized as part of the program. It will be held from March 15 to June 1.

The competition is attended by makhalla and rural gatherings of citizens of Karakalpakstan, regions and Tashkent. Three winners will be selected from each of the 14 regions and will receive the following prizes:

3rd place – a photovoltaic installation with a capacity of 3 kW, costing up to 100 BFS (30 million soums);
2nd place – photovoltaic installation for 5 kW, costing up to 200 BFS (60 million soums);
1st place – photovoltaic installation for 10 kW, costing up to 400 BRF (120 million soums).

The main prize for the gathering of citizens, recognized as the best in the republic, will be an electric car worth up to 1,200 BRV (360 million soums).

Earlier, Spot wrote that the state-owned company Yashil Energiya began selecting applications for the installation of photo panels on government buildings.
